Empowering Tomorrow's Leaders: An Interview with the Visionary Behind Eyden Villarreal & Co.
In the heart of the Rio Grande Valley, a new organization is sprouting, driven by a powerful vision to empower the next generation. Eyden Villarreal & Co. is more than just a budding nonprofit; it's a testament to the belief that every young person deserves the support to transform their aspirations into reality. We recently sat down with the founder to learn about what inspired this vital initiative and what they hope to achieve.
Interviewer: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me. Let's start at the beginning. What inspired you to embark on the journey of creating Eyden Villarreal & Co.?
Founder: My own experiences as a youth really sparked this. I often had these really big ideas and aspirations, but I just didn't have the support system to bring them to life. I started Eyden Villarreal & Co. to create that network—a community of adults dedicated to supporting youth and helping them realize their ideas.
Interviewer: That's a fantastic and incredibly important goal. It truly is essential for young people to have those resources. What kind of projects are you currently working on as you get started?
Founder: We're just beginning, but we've already launched a few key initiatives. We have our Youth-LED Summer Blog, which is a collection of stories written by young people. Then there are our "guiding stories"—these are substantial, 10,000-word-plus investigations into very heavy topics. Think things like "Why has mental health decreased over the past five years?" or "What is death?" They're really philosophical and require deep thought. And finally, we have our network of professionals, who volunteer their time to mentor youth aspiring to pursue their professions.
Interviewer: That's an impressive array of projects for a new organization! Can you tell me more about the topics your youth writers are exploring in their stories, particularly beyond those "guiding stories"?
Founder: Absolutely. While the guiding stories are a required part of their participation, all their other work is purely passion projects. Our youth writers explore anything that comes from their heart and that they feel motivated to write about. This can be anything a young person wants to publish—maybe a personal story from their youth, a testimony, anything that genuinely comes from their point of view.
Interviewer: That open approach must be incredibly empowering for these young writers. Looking ahead, how do you envision Eyden Villarreal & Co. evolving? Do you have specific long-term goals or projects in mind?
Founder: Our ultimate goal is to become a fully registered nonprofit. We want to build a strong foundation with the community's help, to really provide resources specifically for the local Hispanic community here in the RGV. We aim to empower youth with dreams, ideas, and aspirations, help them navigate the challenges they face, and truly support local communities.
Interviewer: That's a wonderful, impactful vision. For those in the community who are inspired by your mission, how can they get involved and support Eyden Villarreal & Co.?
Founder: There are several ways to help. You can volunteer with us, join our youth blog, or help out at our community-led events. Of course, you can always donate, either with a monthly contribution or a one-time gift. And if you're a professional, you can join our network to mentor youth.
Interviewer: That offers a lot of opportunities for people to contribute. And for those interested in donating, where can they find more information?
Founder: They can visit our website at eydenvillarrealco.com/donate.
Interviewer: Thank you so much for sharing your insights and the incredible work you're doing. Eyden Villarreal & Co. is clearly poised to make a significant difference in the RGV, and we're excited to follow your journey.
